I know many of us have pin collections, but who has another type of Disney collection(s). Tell us about them-Please???

I have a Mickey Mouse collection. :Mickeywalk: I have Mickeys from 1/2" to 2 1/2' made out of all different kinds of materials, representing Mickey in all his different rolls and time periods. Probably, most of them I got as gifts. The most unusual is a pencil sharpener. It's the old fashion kind with the handle that you turn, and the sharpener part is a big Mickey head, made of soft pliable rubber in full color. You stick the pencil in his mouth, and when you turn the handle Mickey's cheeks move like he's chewing on the pencil. It's really funny. :lmao: :rotfl: (but you kind of have to see it, to see how funny it is) Everytime I get to go to WDW I get a new Mickey for my collection. - Mickey's Pal:Mickeywalk: :Mickeyear:

Disney soft toys! I love character plush. One of the more annoying things about being at University is that I have to leave them at home. Most of them are from when I was younger, I haven't brought many recently.

I collect figures, any Disney ones I can find and I also used to collect the Disney Happy meal Figures.

I have a cabinet in my living room I display them in. I would love to start collecting snow globes but they are alot more expensive.

I collect small Mickey Mouse stuffed animals, but the themed ones :) I started with a Steamboat Willie Mickey from Disneyland, and went from there. The last one I got was a Mickey & Minnie set, where they look like topiaries, and have a little butterfly on their feet that say Flower & Garden Festival 2006. I'm not entirely sure how many I have, but I've nicknamed them my Mickey Mouse Army.

I am not a real collector, but I have collected a lot of Disney things during my visits.

Many of the little stuffed creatures, many of the small plastic figures, my tee shirts and hats, Resort room goodies and of course, many, many park maps.

I am a pin collector, I love pins in general, and then when I went to Disney World and saw all the pins down there I fell in love immediately. My husband (Dopey4111) collects the Disney Treasures DVDs, and I have started a Disney ornament collection for him. Those are just the official collections, really my husband collects anything that has something Disney on it. I was going through his stuff and he had three of the same 25th anniversary posters that he said they handed out at the park. He would not part with two of them, he had to have all three.

I just grab everything Disney I like. I am not really a collector, I like using the stuff I have and I would never sell any of it. As for a tip I say get what you want because you like it and not because it might be worth something down the road.

For anyone who collects anything, always save the original box or package. The item actually loses up to half of it's value without it.- MP:Mickeywalk: :Mickeyear:

I am trying to start a collection of Disney theme park places. I am trying to build my own mini WDW. So far, I have some ride vehicles from "Roger Ramjet" and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. In August I am going to try to get a monorail and SSE or Space Mountain.

I collect B&TB pieces, Walt Disney Classic Collections, snow globes, Disney Parks coffee mugs (they don't get used) and I have a few pins.

MP - That's a great tip. I've kept the original boxes and packaging for everything I've collected since I was in high school.

Also....if you have something that is irreplaceable and of value have in insured. Make sure you take pictures and have records of those items.

Belle, if you don't mind and if you have the time, I would love to see some of your snow globes. I only have one, but it's special and I love it. Thanks for your tips. - MP:Mickeywalk: :Mickeyear:

Pin Tips:

Do buy a satchel or a bad that has felt to pin your pins in to.

Don't place your pins in a plastic bag or pile them on top of one another - this causes scratching and denting and however small the damage is, the value is lost.

Do snag a book or magazine with the current value of your pins so as not to get schemed if you happen to trade at a pin event.

Do go to pin events if you are at any Disney park or area at the time...CM's sometimes give away free pins just for being there.

Don't (or least check them out before hand) trade with those who you see do keep their pins in bags or containers with nothing to guard them such as wrapping each pin in bubble wrap, etc. These folks usually have doubles of their collection and basically don't take as good care of their traders as they should.

Some general tips are that a lot of good pins can be found on the lanyards of CM's at Disney Vacation Club stands or at your resort as these areas are often looked over when it comes to pin hunting. Also keep an eye out for managers (these guys or gals usually have an ear piece and are holding a garbage picker) as they also usually have unpicked through pins. And most of all, collect what pins you love. This makes it more fun and worth wild. During pin events just sitting and discussing your love for a certain character or attraction, etc of Disney with people from around the globe is just so much fun. Also, when you're at a pin cart or stop, ask to see a pin book if possible for a listing of what current pins are available around the resort and sometimes they let you in on what pins might be releasing while you're staying there. Sometimes, the good ones come and go like that.

Happy Pin Hunting!

Thanks for the tips d_glass. I have finally gotten a pin bag and you're right; it really does keep them nice and you can enjoy looking at them better. But, your best tip is to buy the ones you love. I only have one that I bought for 'profit' so to speak and that was because a CM suggested it to me. It's a Pinocchio that they released with a green cap; Pinocchio's cap should be tan. The CM said, "Here's a chance to buy one that will be a real collector's item because it's an 'error' piece." Every other pin I have is a pin that has a special meaning to me. (Especially my Easter and St. Patrick's Day Mickeys!) - MP:Mickeywalk: :Mickeyear:

I like collecting the refillable mugs from the wdw resorts/ non-refillable mugs found at the theme parks.

At home, I like to think that whatever pop I'm drinking becomes Disney.

"Ooooo, Disney Diet Coke!"

Also, when we were little, my sister collected $1 painted fans from China. Some of them were personalized with her name in chinese. They are real treasures.

I'll take pictures and post them here for you. I just haven't had a chance yet. One of them the water has slowly evaporated out.:sad20: but I'll take pictures of all of them.

Thanks, Belle, that will be great to see them. I don't know why some evaporate and others don't. My Mom has a music box collection and several of them are snowglobes. Some are perfect, but the other day we noticed that one has lost about an inch of fluid. It's still really pretty though. - MP:Mickeywalk: :Mickeyear:

I cleared out a cupboard recently and there were 16 refillable mugs  I kept a few but got rid of the rest.

I started a collection of snowglobes on my last trip, but I've been collecting all the McDonald's Disney Toys they've had since I was little with my mom. My favorite collection would probably be the ones where you got a mini version of the movie's vhs case and inside was the main character. Actually I wonder where all my toys went too.....
