It's been rumored for a while, but the Winter 2012 issue of DisneyFILES magazine (publication for DVC owners) confirms that Disney Vacation Club is partnering with D23 to offer an exclusive, complimentary D23 membership to owners in early 2013.
DVC owners are encouraged to watch DVCMember.com in January for details about how to register online for this D23 membership level.

This is a cool perk...I dont really get to take much advantage of the program because a lot of the events take place in CA, and the ones that do take place in FL, I'm never there for. But if it's free, i'll take it!

The article was a little vague on details, but it did mention "a touring 'Disney Fanniversary Celebration' honoring Disney milestones in key cities across the U.S." So who knows? There may be a D23 event coming to your neck of the woods this year.

In 2013, “D23’s Disney Fanniversary Celebration” will take to the road in March and April and will travel to Boston, Newark, Seattle, San Diego, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.
